With wired networks, physical cables are routed through your building to the desk these lines offer the fastest transfer of data and are more suited to static clients such as desktops, printers and servers. As the only way to gain access to the network is by plugging in to the internal network or via an external link security is managed by the communications equipment.

Ideally there will be a dedicated room for holding all the communications equipment and servers, the equipment will ideally be rack mounted and then the entire building be cabled to a patch panel in the rack, this allows easy connection of any service to any available port in the building, the room and racks should be secured and ideally air conditioned
